Trenchless Excavation & Directional Bore in Evansville, IN

A new line has to cross under the driveway, the walk, or a finished yard, and an open trench would tear up all of it. We run sewer and water lines under them with trenchless excavation and directional bore across Evansville and the Tri-State.

Locally owned plumber in Evansville, IN. Open 24/7.

Your sewer or water line needs replacing, or a new one has to go in, but the route runs under a concrete driveway, a sidewalk, a patio, or a yard you spent years on. Trenchless excavation and directional bore in Evansville puts that line in place by boring underneath instead of opening a trench along the whole run, and Evansville Plumbing Repair takes on that work for homes and businesses across the Tri-State.

We're locally owned, licensed and insured, and this work sits under our Drainage Service category. When the open-cut route is the better fit for a failed lateral, our sewer line installation page covers the dig, the spot repair, and the full replace.

Directional boring

If the line has to cross under something you don't want broken out, such as a driveway, a walk, a patio, or mature landscaping, directional boring is the job: we bore a path under it and pull the new pipe through, so the surface stays where it is.

Indiana's dig law defines excavate to include boring, drilling, jacking, pulling in and tunneling, not only trenching, so a directional bore needs the same Indiana 811 locate notice as an open trench.

That notice goes to Indiana 811 at least two full working days, and not more than ten calendar days, before the work starts; weekends and state and national legal holidays don't count as working days. Indiana 811 gives a ticket number and a list of the member utilities it notifies, and any non-member utility has to be contacted separately.

Once the marks are down, Indiana 811 says regulations set a two-foot tolerance zone on either side of each mark, where only certain digging, such as hand digging, is allowed.

Trenchless sewer line replacement

Say the private sewer lateral has failed, but it runs under the driveway or beside trees you want to keep: trenchless sewer line replacement is the option to look at when an open trench would be costly to restore, and we check the line first and tell you whether a trenchless run fits it.

The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility (EWSU) is responsible for the sewer mains in the street, off private property or in easements, while property owners maintain the line between the home and the property line.

EWSU notes that tree roots and plant materials may cause breaks or cracks in sewer lines, and that when deep-rooted trees or shrubs grow near the lateral, a plumber can determine whether the service line has been or could be damaged.

If that owner-side lateral only needs an access point, a cleanout installation adds one, and if the pipe is sound but blocked, drain cleaning clears it instead.

Trenchless water line replacement

If the water service line from the meter to the house is leaking or worn out and it runs under the lawn, the drive, or the walk, trenchless water line replacement bores a new line along that route so the yard and concrete stay in place.

For EWSU customers, the owner's side runs from the home to the utility's stop valve near the property line. EWSU's customer guide says you are responsible for repairing leaks or damage to your portion of the service line, and EWSU is responsible from the main to that stop valve.

What changes the scope of a bore is the length of the run, what it has to pass under, and where the marked utilities sit, not a single price on this page. A free quote settles the plan and the number for your property before work starts.

FAQ

Is directional boring the same as trenchless sewer repair?
Directional boring is one trenchless method, boring a path under the surface and pulling new pipe through; trenchless excavation and directional bore covers new and replacement sewer and water lines run that way; it is not a clear for a clogged line, which is drain cleaning.
Do you still need to call 811 for a bore?
Yes. Indiana's dig law counts boring, drilling and tunneling as excavation, and the notice has to reach Indiana 811 at least two full working days before the work begins.
When is an open trench the better choice?
An open trench is often the better choice when the line is short, the route has nothing to protect, or the damage is one broken section, and our sewer line installation page covers that open-cut lateral work.
Is this for a business building?
Yes. Trenchless excavation and directional bore works for business buildings too. EWSU puts the line between a home or building and the property line on the owner, so a business owns that run; when a commercial building's sewer has failed end to end, commercial sewer replacement covers that job.
